Mirfield Modern School
Mirfield Modern School

The first foundations of Mirfield Modern School were laid in 1937 and it was planned that the school should open in 1939 but work had to be stopped when World War II broke out that year. During the war years the school building was used for storage. A few years after hostilities ended work began again and the school was finally completed early in 1950 and took its first pupils in May of that year. The first Headmaster was Mr. Bassett and the first Headmistress was Miss Lockwood.
The school was officially opened by the Earl of Scarborough in a ceremony held on Friday, the 29th June, 1951.
